Carry-on baggage
You can take one item of carry-on baggage with you, such as a trolley case, a pocket buggy or a foldable garment bag, or two in Business Class.
- Dimensions for carry-on baggage: max. 55 x 40 x 23 cm
- Dimensions for foldable garment bags: max. 57 x 54 x 15 cm
You can find the free baggage allowance for your flight, as well as the weight limits and dimensions for carry-on baggage, at a glance in the baggage calculator – based on the route, travel class, fare and frequent flyer status.
To ensure smooth boarding, more stowage space on board, and on-time departure, your carry-on baggage must meet with regulations. For this reason, we check your hand baggage at departure airports for the permitted dimensions, quantity and weight. Carry-on baggage that is too big or too heavy will be taken at the gate and loaded into the cargo hold for a fee. The charges for this are significantly higher at the gate than in the check-in hall and can only be paid for by credit card.
Please make sure that you always take your personal items such as valuables and medication into the cabin with you. Devices such as mobile phones and tablets, power banks and e-cigarettes that contain batteries are not permitted to be transported in checked baggage.
- Another small item of baggage (max. 30 cm long, 40 cm high and 10 cm wide, e.g., a handbag or laptop bag).
- Either a child seat, a booster seat, a crib or a pocket buggy per child.
- Mobility aids such as wheelchairs or orthopedic aids.
Special rules apply to the transportation of musical instruments as carry-on baggage:
- For bigger carry-on baggage such as trolleys, please use the stowage compartment above your seat.
- Please store personal items such as laptop bags, shopping bags and handbags under the seat in front of you.
- You can easily hang coats and jackets on the cloakroom hook on the seat in front of you.
- Please note that the stowage compartments above the emergency exit rows are reserved for the passengers sitting in these rows.
It is not permitted by law to carry certain items in checked or carry-on baggage.
The following regulations apply to liquids in carry-on baggage for flights within the EU and connecting flights departing from the EU (including flights within Germany):
- Containers with liquids and gel-like products can contain up to 100 ml (maximum volume printed on container).
- A plastic bag (transparent, resealable, max. 1 liter) per person for all products.
- The bag is to be displayed separately during the security check.
- Liquid duty-free goods purchased at an international airport or on board an aircraft outside the EU may be transported in a tamper-evident, certified bag when transferring via an EU airport. The sales receipt must be in the bag, and the bag must be sealed at the point of sale.
- Medication and special foods (e.g., baby food) can be transported outside the plastic bag and are also to be presented for a security check.
Items and bags that fail to meet the requirements cannot be taken on board.
Please take your liquids out of the carry-on baggage for the security check and present them separately. In exceptional cases, liquids may be opened for inspection and removed from their outer packaging.
These regulations are laid down in legislation. Interpreting the EU regulation locally falls to the locally competent authorities. Discover Airlines has no say in this.
Before your flight, please also find out which regulations apply at your departure airport on the website of the relevant airport.
When booking a trip with several airlines, the carry-on baggage rules of the airline operating the respective flight apply. Please check the carry-on baggage regulations on the respective airlines’ websites before you travel and follow the most stringent rules applied by the relevant carriers.
