Bucket list for your vacation on Corfu
1. Kayak tour around Paleokastrista
It’s worth getting up early! Hire a kayak and simply explore the coast around Paleokastrista before the rest of the world wakes up. You’ll have the bay almost to yourself, and the water is smooth as glass – perfect for a few Insta snaps.
2. Insider tip: Porto Timoni
Twin bays that you absolutely must see. You can reach this incredible spot by a short hike from Afionas. Two bays, separated by a narrow strip of land – it hardly gets better than this.
3. The ultimate quad tour
Explore Corfu on four wheels? Yes, please! Just hire a quad bike and hurtle through the landscape – from the beach to the mountains. Ideal for exploring the hidden corners of the island on your own. Our highlight!
4. Dinner at the 7th Heaven Bar
Sunset and cocktails – all with an incredible view! Order a cocktail and enjoy the sunset over the Ionian Sea – romantic yet casual at the same time.
5. Stargazing on Mount Pantokrator
Under the stars of Corfu. Mount Pantokrator is the highest point of the island. The stars look within easy reach from up here, far above the lights of the town. Don’t forget your telescope – who knows what you might discover in the sky!
5. Secret Antinioti Lagoon
Pack your binoculars and visit Antinioti Lagoon in the north of Corfu. A paradise for bird watchers and nature lovers – especially in the spring, when the migrating birds come to roost. That’s wildlife and nature, pure and simple!
Weather & best time to travel
The classic time to travel for flights to Corfu is during the summer months between June and September, because the temperatures on Corfu peak during this period. Don’t fancy crowds of tourists? Then you should try the months of May and October instead. The climate is still mild, but the high-season tourists are absent.
Getting around
The easiest way to explore the island is by rental car! Stop whenever you wish and discover the island at your own pace. But there are other options in addition to a car: Rental scooters are a fast alternative for speeding through the narrow village streets. Local buses are a good alternative for longer distances or if you want to travel without the stress. The buses operate regularly, connecting the larger places and some more remote beaches. But travel times are less flexible than with a private car.
From Corfu Airport to the town center? Very easy. You can either book a transfer beforehand, rent a car right away or jump in a taxi – a relaxed start to your vacation in Corfu. Or take the local bus for an authentic island experience.
Do’s and don’ts on Corfu
✓ Kumquats – sweet and unique.
These little, orange-colored fruits are a local hit. Try them fresh or, even better, grab same kumquat liqueur as a sweet souvenir.
X Overfished fruits of the sea
Corfu has a wealth of seafood, but certain species have been overfished. Inform yourself and avoid those species – for example, the European eel. Better to enjoy more sustainable options.
X Don’t ignore the midday heat!
Try to find a shady location instead between midday and 4 p.m., or stay inside. The midday sun on Corfu can be particularly ruthless during the summer months.
X Keep it clean!
No matter how small the snack paper or cigarette butt is – always take your waste with you! Corfu is too nice to be trashed.
✓ Visit the local festivals!
If you are lucky enough to be in Corfu during a local festival: join in! It’s the perfect opportunity to experience the culture of the island up close.
✓ Pack your hiking shoes and off you go.
Put on your hiking shoes and climb the old stone steps to Angelokastro Castle. The view over the west coast is worth every drop of sweat.
