Accessible travel to and from the US

On the following page, you will find useful information for accessible travel to and from the US.

Please call us at +1 (800) 645 3880 no later than 72 hours before your flight so that we can discuss and plan your need for additional assistance. For passengers with hearing impairment in the US, a relay service is available at +1 (866) 846 4283 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. EST on business days and from 08:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. EST on the weekend. Please feel free to contact our reservation staff with any issues or questions.

If, after reading the different subjects that are explained below, you still have a specific medical question, please contact the Lufthansa Medical Desk at +1 (516) 279 1768, which is available Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST.

On Discover Airlines flights, you can either check in battery-powered mobility aids as hold baggage or bring them with you as carry-on baggage in the cabin. Battery-operated mobility devices include respiratory devices, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) devices, portable oxygen concentrators, and ventilators. Passengers with a disability who use FAA-approved personal respiratory devices/ventilators can carry their devices (including leak-proof batteries) on board. The remaining battery power must be enough to last for 150% of the maximum flight duration.

Discover Airlines allows you to use both non-leak-proof and leak-proof batteries for your battery-powered mobility aid. The batteries must be clearly labeled “NOT LEAK-PROOF” or “LEAK-PROOF” to enable our staff to correctly handle the relevant battery type. Batteries showing signs of damage or leakage may be rejected.

If it is not possible for you to register your mobility aids in advance, our staff at the airport will be happy to help you coordinate their stowage in the aircraft.

If you have hearing loss, please contact us before your trip so that we can make the necessary arrangements. The number for our US call relay service is +1 (866) 846 4283 and is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12 a.m. EST and on the weekend from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. EST. If you are not able to pre-register, our staff at the airport will be happy to help.

Registered assistance dogs can be taken on board all of our flights free of charge. Please find out about the general requirements for taking an assistance dog with you in the cabin.

If you have any problems while traveling with Discover Airlines, please ask our crew or ground staff for a Complaint Resolution Official (CRO).

Their specialist training means that our CROs have the sensitivity and knowledge required and are familiar with all the applicable regulations and laws of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the US Department of Transportation (DOT), the Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). They will be happy to help you.

There are CROs available to you during the hours of operation at all our US destinations and in Frankfurt.
