Add baggage during check-in

Conditions of sale for the first and second piece of baggage and each additional piece of baggage during check-in.

First piece of baggage: Passengers with an Economy Light fare who have not yet purchased a piece of baggage before check-in can book an additional piece of baggage for a fee during check-in.

Second piece of baggage: Economy Class passengers can book a discounted second piece of baggage on certain routes.

Each additional piece of baggage: All passengers can book additional pieces of baggage during check-in for a fee. This applies to all routes.

The following requirements must be fulfilled:

  • The passenger has a confirmed booking (no waiting list).
  • First/second piece of baggage: One piece of baggage may not exceed a total size of 158 cm (width X + height Y + depth Z) and a weight of 23 kg.
  • Each additional piece of baggage: For passengers traveling in Economy and Premium Economy Class, the baggage may not exceed a total size of 158 cm (width X + height Y + depth Z) and a weight of 23 kg. For passengers in Business Class, the piece of baggage must not exceed a total size of 158cm (width X + height Y + depth Z) and a weight of 32kg.
  • If more than one passenger is booked on the same ticket, a piece of baggage can be booked individually for each passenger.
  • The passenger checks in online more than 2 hours before departure.

Conditions

  • The first and second piece of baggage and each additional piece of baggage can be booked on flights operated by the Lufthansa Group. This applies to flights operated by Discover Airlines, Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Air Dolomiti.
  • On flights operated by Air Dolomiti, only the first piece of baggage and each additional piece of baggage can be booked.
  • After payment, the baggage costs will neither be refunded nor offset.
  • A refund or change to the booked service is possible if the fare conditions allow a refund or change.
  • In the event of an involuntary ticket change or refund, the booked service can also be refunded or changed.
  • In the event of an upgrade to a higher fare, the booked service can be refunded.

Exceptions for the purchase of baggage

  • The purchase of baggage during check-in is limited to five pieces of baggage. If more than five pieces of baggage are to be added, the passenger can contact the Service Center or purchase them at the airport.
  • Baggage that exceeds the permitted size and/or weight will be treated as excess baggage and cannot be added during check-in. If a piece of baggage exceeds the permitted size and/or weight, the passenger can contact the Service Center or purchase it at the airport.
