In the year 425 B.C., the first traces of human settlement were discovered in Nusfjord. With a golden age at the beginning of the last century, Nusfjord is a true treasure of history. This unique fishing village offers a deep insight into an era in which the Northeast Arctic cod (skrei) lay on the cliffs and hung to dry on stands over the entire area. At the beginning of the 20th century, there were more than 1,500 fishermen living in Nusfjord. The walls of the restaurants and work buildings are covered with images of fish and fishing boats, as far as the eye can see. Many of the old work buildings, such as the forge, the smoke furnace, the boat houses and the cod liver oil factory, have been preserved and now form the part of the tour that brings you closer to the history of the Lofoten Islands.
