Why Marrakech

Historic old town: The Medina is the oldest part of the city and where its culture truly comes alive. Traditional buildings, magnificent mosques, and bustling markets give this area its unique character.
A world of sound, scent, and color: The souks—traditional markets scattered throughout the city— immerse visitors in a magical world straight out of 'Arabian Nights.'
Flavor explosions: The food is both affordable and incredibly delicious. Dishes like tagine, couscous, and kebabs will take you to culinary heaven!
Soukh in the city of Marrakech
  • Bahia Palace
The palace in the south of Medina, filled with countless ornaments and carvings, is one of the most beautiful in Morocco. With over 150 rooms and riads in Moorish-Andalusian style, it’s easy to get lost—but it's so stunning, you won’t mind.
    Koutoubia Mosque
The minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque rises proudly above the city, forming an iconic silhouette. This beautifully decorated building is the city's landmark and stands in the heart of a palm garden. Even though non-Muslims can't go inside, it's definitely worth a visit.
    Medersa Ben Youssef
This former Quranic school should be a must on your cultural bucket list. The unique architecture of this strikingly decorated building is a highlight for anyone interested in culture and history.
  • The hustle and bustle of the souks
The souks in the Medina are the lively heart of Marrakech’s old town. The scent of spices fill the air as vendors offer their goods, and crowds of people, mopeds, donkeys, and carts jostle through the narrow streets. You haven’t truly experienced Marrakech until you’ve explored the Medina's souks.
    World-famous marketplace
The Djemaa el Fna is the centerpiece of the Medina and perhaps the most famous marketplace in Morocco, also known as the "Square of Entertainers." From storytellers to fire breathers, you’ll see some incredible talents here. What’s more, there’s delicious street food and live music to enjoy.
Oases of calm in the Medina
It's surprising to find peaceful hideaways in the bustling old town. Riads are small houses with green courtyards, often featuring pools or fountains. Many of these riads date back to the 15th century and have been converted into hotels or apartments. A perfect place to stay for an authentic Moroccan vacation!
  • Atlas Mountains
Since Marrakech is only about 90 km from the Atlas Mountains, you can easily take a break from your city trip for a hiking adventure. Whether it's for a day or a few days, hike to traditional Berber villages and the stunning waterfalls of Setti Fatma.
    Beach vibes
Although a Marrakech trip is more of a city trip than a beach vacation, you don't have to miss out on an ocean dip. About 180 km from Marrakech is the port city of Essaouira, which boasts one of Morocco's most beautiful beaches. So, pack a towel and soak up some beach vibes for a day!
    Inside the desert
30 km from Marrakech lies the Agafay Desert. Take a tour of this mysterious place to visit traditional Berber villages and explore the vast desert, all while enjoying views of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains. For a romantic getaway, try a desert dinner under the stars!

Getting around

The best way to get around Marrakech is by foot, especially in Medina where most of the streets are narrow and crowded. Buses are well-connected and will take you to the city's key spots. Renting a car is best for trips to the surrounding areas like the desert or the Atlas Mountains. Car rentals are available in Marrakech and at the airport.

The Marrakech airport is only 6 km from the city center. The cheapest way to travel between the two is by bus or shuttle. Public taxis or rental cars are also quick options, so head to Marrakech with Discover Airlines!

What else do we love about Mallorca? That it’s so easy to reach. Palma de Mallorca airport offers various transport options to centers like Palma or Cala Ratjada. Besides shuttle buses and taxis, buses run regularly from the airport to the hotspots.
Market in Marrakech

Do's and Dont's in Marrakech

Bargain:
If there’s no price tag, you should definitely haggle! Bargaining is part of the culture and, with a bit of practice, can be both fun and rewarding.
Inappropriate clothing:
Marrakech is traditionally Muslim, so dress respectfully and avoid overly revealing clothes.
Learn some Arabic:
While many people speak English at tourist spots, learning a bit of Arabic is polite and can help you to negotiate better at the markets.
Unasked photos:
Always ask before taking pictures of people. It’s also illegal to photograph the military, with hefty fines for violations.
Overuse water:
As a desert city, water is scarce. Use it sparingly and be mindful of the local customs.
Learn key terms:
Get familiar with terms like Riad, Medina, Hammam, Kasbah, and Ksar—they describe the city’s landscape and culture.
Explore modern neighborhoods:
Gueliz and Hivernage offer a modern contrast to the Medina with upscale buildings, gardens, malls, and restaurants.
